HSBC Voice ID is now available.

From now on, you can access phone banking services more quickly and conveniently and by using your voice, reducing the need to remember your phone banking PIN or answer extra security questions1. Voice ID uses advanced voice biometric technology to verify your identity with just using your unique voice.

How Do I Enrol for Voice ID?

  1. Call the Enrolment Hotline
    (852)2233 3360
  1. Key in any HSBC bank account or credit card number
  1. Input your 6-digit
    phone banking PIN
  1. Enter the 6-digit one-time
    passcode once it's received
    via SMS, followed by the
    hash key (#).
    Listen to and accept the terms and conditions
  1. Repeat the simple passphrase 3 times (maximum 5 attempts)
    to create your individual
    voiceprint
  1. Enrolment is comfirmed2 via SMS

We recommend making the enrolment call from a quiet environment for better recording quality.

How Does It Work?

Your voice is your unique, built-in password. During the enrolment process, you will be required to repeat a simple passphrase. This will be recorded to create a voiceprint to be used for future verification purposes. When you use phone banking services, your voice will be cross-checked against this voiceprint to verify your identity3. The system can recognize you even if you are suffering from a common cold or mild sore throat.

Is It Safer?

It will be extremely difficult for imposters to get through by imitating your voice, as we measure more than 100 physical and behavioural factors determining how a voice is produced, rather than the sounds themselves. We are also deploying additional new security controls to help reduce the risk of fraud.

Resetting your Phone Banking PIN

If you have forgotten your Phone Banking PIN, you can reset it with an ATM pin or credit card pin by calling our hotline, or using any HSBC ATM in Hong Kong.
For security and so you can gain instant access to phone banking, resetting your PIN will also reset your phone banking transfer limit for non-registered third party accounts to zero. Visit any HSBC branch to restore your previous limit.

  1. Once you have successfully enrolled in Voice ID services, we will use Voice ID to identify you automatically when you call us for phone banking services. However, you may still be required to input your phone banking PIN or answer extra security questions in some instances or for certain transactions or instructions.
  2. You can opt-out of the Voice ID service at any time by calling either the HSBC Premier, HSBC Advance, or HSBC Personal Banking hotline (depending on your account type), and contact a phone banking customer service officer.
  3. If you have failed Voice ID verification several times consecutively, your Voice ID services will be temporarily suspended. You can call either the HSBC Premier, HSBC Advance, or HSBC Personal Banking hotline, depending on your account type, and contact a phone banking customer service officer for help resetting your phone banking security.
