Things to know
Need to open a bank account with HSBC Hong Kong? You can apply with us if you:
- are at least 18 years old
- meet additional criteria depending on where you live
- have proof of ID, proof of address and additional documents if needed, subject to qualification status, local laws and regulations
HSBC Global Private Banking, HSBC Premier Elite and HSBC Premier customers automatically qualify for HSBC Premier in Hong Kong. There are different ways to open a bank account with HSBC HK, subject to eligibility.
Apply online via mobile app (HKID holder or overseas passportView footnote 1 holder)
You'll need to download the HSBC HK App to open an account online. You can apply if you're:
- holding an eligible Hong Kong ID or an overseas passportView footnote 1
- new to HSBC
- between the ages of 18 and 75
- living in Australia, Macau SAR, Singapore, the UK, the US or Canada
If you're in Hong Kong and ready to use your passport for identity verification, you may need to allow HSBC HK App to access your GPS location data, and then submit application.
Apply online via mobile app (exit-entry permit (EEP) holder)
You'll need to download the HSBC HK App to open an account online. You can apply if you meet all of the following:
- hold an exit-entry permit (EEP) that's valid for at least 6 months
- new to HSBC
- between the ages of 18 and 75
- physically located in mainland China or Hong Kong when submitting this application

If you're physically located in Hong Kong, please have your EEP ready for identity verification, allow 'HSBC HK app' to access your GPS location data, and upload your exit-entry record to submit application. Learn how to download your exit-entry record This link will open in a new window.
If you're physically located in mainland China, please have your EEP ready for identity verification and application submission. You'll need to activate your account in Hong Kong via the HSBC HK app within 90 days - an in-person visit to a branch is not required. Learn how to activate your account This link will open in a new window. You can't apply online for an HSBC One account when you're in China. Please apply via the HSBC HK App after you arrive in Hong Kong.

- Hong Kong mobile account opening is available for select jurisdictions only and there are 15 passport types supported including: Australia, Belgium, Canada, India, Ireland, Italy, Jersey, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States of America or Vietnam.
